The consumption of Mytilus galloprovincialis in Spain goes back to the time of the Romans. After the passing of time, it has become one of our most traditional dishes, and now, at Palacio de Oriente, we combine this delicacy with the thousand-year-old ceviche sauce from Peru.
Can of DOP ‘Mejillón de Galicia’ mussels in ceviche sauce
The production of our preserved seafood begins in the bateas, floating structures that serve as mussel nurseries, located in the Galician loughs. There the mollusks grow as they feed on marine phytoplankton. Once the pieces are selected, they are cleaned, steam cooked and dehydrated, to avoid excess water.
Carefully, the mussels are distributed in the can and covered with a sauce that has a sour, salty and slightly spicy taste. This sauce pairs perfectly with the unmistakable flavor of the sea of the DOP “Mejillón de Galicia” mussels.
Our can of DOP “Mejillón de Galicia” mussels in ceviche sauce is a cultural exchange that can be eaten as a starter, directly out of the can, or with a more sophisticated presentation, accompanied by roasted corn, fries or any other crunchy food item.
